Many people think the sound of the car comes mainly from the engine. At low speed that is definitely true, but as soon as the car speeds, the tires and the road surface also have a major influence on the noise the car produces. I wrote a blog post on the difference in car noise, some weeks ago. This time, I noticed a small item on the seven o’clock news about a test project in the city of Ghent (Flanders, Belgium). I could not find any other reference yet on the internet besides the main action plan on sound reduction for the region of the city of Ghent – but this plan was already written some years ago. In the news they said the road surface reduces the sound of the cars by several decibels. If you have more info, do not hesitate to send it to us.
