Did you know you can track the planes above your head? It’s easy to track them, via flight trackers such as FlightRadar24. Using Flightradar24, I checked the status of the airline traffic this morning. Just to give you an idea of the difference between the Baltics (left) and Brussels-London-Paris-Amsterdam (right). Same scale.
As you can see on the detail below, my Flanders home is under the busy track London-Brussels. I sometimes fly transatlantic to the US and Canada. They used to descend towards Brussels much later, and some time in the past, it surprised me that they – from that moment onward – already started landing somewhere around London. That is where the “green” slope starts to mess with our ears. But of course, for those people living near Brussels airport and definitely in the landing route of 25R (Boortmeerbeek and that area – mid-right of the detail) the sound pressure must be much more heavy.
