Today, many of the schools in Flanders (Belgium, Europe) stimulated their pupils to come to school by bike, rather than the parents bringing them by car. The initiative is part of many initiatives of the “dikketruiendag” (en: warm pullover day). The essence is that schools, government, and businesses are motivated to put the heating a bit lower today, and compensate the lower temperature by wearing an extra pullover. Going to school by bike, is extended from this eco-initiative. One of the ambassadors of the “dikketruiendag” is weather man Frank Deboosere. In his interview on television, he mentioned that going to school by bike is good for the environment – also in the vicinity of the schools. One of the benefits he claimed, is that bikes make less noise than cars. Thank you, Frank.
